LOOKING for new opportunities to start a business require a lot of planning and research.
For a couple running a small business at the Jerudong beach market, they may have just found a niche; selling handcrafted wooden bird cages.
Aminah said that she and her husband had been eyeing to start a business prior to her husband’s retirement.
After assessing their capabilities, available resources and the market, the couple decided to dive into the wooden bird cage business.
“Alhamdulillah, this business has been going on for a few years now,” said Aminah Abdullah, whose husband custom-made the wooden bird cages.
Aminah said that the idea came from her husband who has an artistic drawing talent combined with some woodwork experience.
“Making a wooden bird cage requires skills and creativity. It has to serve a purpose,” said the husband.
The couple sells wooden bird cages of varying shapes and sizes, with the larger cages sold at $35 each.
Aminah said that the response by the visitors at their stall has been very encouraging.
“In one day, we produce around three large bird cages,” the 50-year-old added.
The couple can be found at their stall in Jerudong every Sunday.
